Letter from the chair

Dear Parents,

South Moreton Primary School has a Governing Body made up of a team of volunteers both from within and outside the school community. Governors bring a range of skills ranging from practical teaching knowledge, information technology, communications, premises management, finance, design, art and sport. Above all, they bring additional enthusiasm and imagination to help improve the school experience for children.

The Local Governing Body is appointed by ODST, and has delegated responsibility for the long-term development and improvement of the school, including decisions made relating to spending the school’s budget, pupil welfare, health and safety, curriculum and other matters laid down by law. It provides a visible form of accountability and support for the Headteacher and staff for the standards the children achieve and the quality of education.

At South Moreton School the full Local Governing Body comprises a maximum of 12 members who undertake a particular role within the team and also oversee specific areas of school life (see the list below). At the beginning of the first meeting of the Autumn term, one governor is elected as Chair and one as Vice-Chair. The Governing Body is supported by a trained Clerk who takes minutes and provides advice and support.

From time to time there are vacancies - If you are interested in becoming a Governor, please e-mail the school, for my attention and I shall respond to your enquiry. Enquiries can also be made through the Headteacher, Mrs Cheryl Sánchez, or the Staff Governor, Miss Sam Crossan.
