Celebrations & Festivals Work Term 2
The start of term 2 saw the whole school involved in Africa Week and the
children in the EY Foundation Stage class took part in lots of African themed
activities.
The children learnt dances, listened to traditional African stories, made
bead bracelets, printed T’shirts and learnt African songs.

During term 2 the children also learnt about Guy Fawkes and the importance
of Remembrance Sunday. The children learnt that Guy Fawkes lived over 400 years
ago and that he and his friends tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in a
plot to try to kill king James 1.
The children decided to paint Guy Fawkes and they made lovely fireworks
pictures using coloured chalks. The cookery group also made everyone hot dogs
and we had our very own bonfire feast!

The children watched information about the first and second World Wars and
learnt why we wear poppies in November. The children made a giant poppy from bits
of recycled paper and we then displayed our beautiful poppy in our entrance
area. Our role play area became a field hospital and the children pretended to
be soldiers, nurses and doctors, like those they saw in the DVD’s.
In maths the children investigated shapes and used many different
resources including the interactive whiteboard to further their understanding.

The term finished with our EY Foundation Stage children joining the rest
of the infant department for our christmas play called The Nativity. The
children learnt 8 new songs and performed to an audience of family and friends.

We enjoyed our class party and had lots of fun outside when it snowed for
a couple of days making it a very memorable end of term for the children!

Term 1 - Celebrations and Festivals Work

As part of our work on celebrations and festivals we learned about Harvest Festival, Halloween and Diwali. We made apple pie and leek and potato soup with produce from our vegetable plots and all agreed that the food was delicious.
